family scenes: Nov. 14, 2003 (9:25 pm)

when my brother was in eighth grade and i was seven years old i'd get really nervous about friday night dinners because him and his friend zac would make jokes and i would laugh and it would be hard to eat. i still am my brother's best audience. tonight, he came over for dinner. i told him i've got a tofurky and my mom started laughing; laughing in the way i laugh when i try to tell a joke. after she calmed down, she said it sounded like something you get removed at a dermatologist's office. she wiped away the tears on her face and told us that it wasn't even that funny. i thought it was beautiful.
