one reason i never switched into precalc honors was (sadly) because of a boy in my precalc class. i remember so clearly at orienation that he smiled at anonymous me and effortlessly i smiled back.

in class we never spoke. but he twisted his uncut hair hair the same way i dread my bangs. said (before his birthday) he would be a man in our next class. he was rarely sober in our class. right before fourth quarter he switched to the morning version of the class.

today, with a smile, he handed me the art-mag.

and somehow, i wished i had done something more than merely stayed in that class.
