in connecticut there were more than a few people reading salinger alone. i felt jealous because when i read the celine book i'm working my way through now i don't lose sense of where i am and my mouth doesn't fall slighly open. i remain conscious of myself. franny glass writes an embarrassig letter to an embarrassing love. i was thinking about a corny ending i wrote to a letter once but how it was natural and unembarrassing because i was happy.
